Windows Security Updates

If you have a windows based operating system, you are probably aware of the windows security update feature. This feature ensures that your windows operating system is up to date with the latest security patches and tools to protect your computer.

When you buy a computer, the settings on that computer are usually set to enable automatic updates so you do not have to worry about downloading security updates from the vendor web site. The download settings typically schedule downloads for a time when you are probably not using the computer, e.g. 2:00 a.m. or 3:00 a.m.  

If at any time you want to check for windows updates, you can always visit the vendor web site. To find the updates for your particular operating system, you have to search by the name of the operating system. New computers will always have the latest version of operating system installed on the machine.  

Once you select the available downloads for your operating system, you can install the windows updates by checking off the boxes for the updates you want to use. You may not need downloads for Indonesian, French or Chinese languages so don’t just check the boxes for every download.

Remember that each download file takes up a certain amount of space on your computer so if you don’t have a particular media software program, don’t download the latest security updates for that program. 

If you buy a software program online or in the store, check to be sure you have the latest, most compatible security updates for these programs. The operating system vendor partners with some of the largest software manufacturers to test compatibility of these programs and, in some instances to provide windows security to protect you from hackers, viruses and other security issues.  

For the most part, you do not have to worry about the latest security updates as long as you have your windows update utility set to automatically download windows security updates and routine windows updates for bug fixes and new features.
